Camp Ignite: Teen Girl Firefighter Boot Camp Starts July 24

Jul 16, 2017

Twenty teenaged girls will have the opportunity to find out firsthand if a career in fire service is in their future next week during Camp Ignite.
In its second year, Camp Ignite, offered by Mississauga Fire and Emergency Service (MFES), will give teen girls the opportunity to perform real-world fire activities. Auto extrication, putting out car fires, rappelling down walls and search and rescue techniques are all on the boot camp agenda.

New this year, the teens will have access to a webinar developed by Captain Shelli Varela, the City’s first female firefighter.

The webinar entitled ‘Overcoming Limiting Beliefs’ focuses on discovering what holds a person back, uncovering behaviours that don't serve their goals and reframing possibilities. The goal is to assist people in moving past the obstacles that can get in their way.

The webinar will be available online once the camp begins to anyone interested in learning more about the power of recognizing limiting beliefs.
