City Officials Attend AMO Conference to Discuss Municipal Priorities

Aug 16, 2017

Mississauga’s Mayor Bonnie Crombie, along with Members of Council, joined more than 1,900 municipal leaders at the 2017 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference this week in Ottawa to discuss municipal priorities.

“The AMO Conference provided a great opportunity to raise a variety of key issues the City is facing,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “Throughout the conference, I along with Members of Council were able to meet with cabinet ministers, MPPs and the leaders of the opposition parties to talk about Mississauga's priorities. These discussions are important to advance our municipal agenda with the provincial government.”

City representatives attended sessions on key topics including the need for new and modern approaches to funding municipal government, changes to the Ontario Municipal Board, infrastructure and transit, climate change, economic development, the digital and sharing economy, affordable housing and much more.

AMO is a non-profit organization representing almost all of Ontario’s 444 municipal governments. AMO supports strong and effective municipal government in Ontario and promotes the value of municipal government as a vital and essential component of Ontario and Canada’s political system.
