Springfield Park to be renamed in honour of Ron Lenyk

An official renaming ceremony honouring Ron Lenyk, long-time Mississauga resident and volunteer, will take place on Saturday, November 4 at Springfield Park.

The park will be renamed to Ron Lenyk Springfield Park. The renaming is in appreciation of Mr. Lenyk’s outstanding contributions to Mississauga through his publishing career and commitment to volunteer service.

Mr. Lenyk was hired as a sports reporter for the Mississauga News in 1970. Over his thirty-year career, he received numerous awards including the highly-regarded Suburban Newspapers of America’s Dean S. Lasher Award.

As a founding member of the board of Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Board of Trade and Mississauga Community Foundation, Mr. Lenyk was respected for his active voluntary contributions. Some of his crowning achievements include being named Mississauga Citizen of the Year in 2001 and receiving a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

In 2015, Mr. Lenyk was inducted into Mississauga’s Sports Council Hall of Fame and Legends Row.
