Mississauga City Council Appoints David Cook as Ward 1 Councillor

Feb 21, 2018

At Mississauga’s City Council meeting today, David Cook was appointed as Ward 1 Councillor. The appointment will be effective immediately and the new Ward 1 Councillor will remain in office until the end of the current City Council term on November 30, 2018. David Cook will also be a member of the Region of Peel Council. The Regional appointment will be addressed at the Region of Peel Council meeting on Thursday, February 22.

David Cook is a former Mississauga City Councillor having served three terms between 1980 and 1988.

At its meeting on January 25, City Council decided that the vacant office of Ward 1, formerly held by the late Councillor Jim Tovey, would be filled by appointment. The appointment process involved candidates submitting nomination forms and supporting documents. Each candidate also had an opportunity to address Council at today’s meeting.

A total of 19 candidates participated in the appointment process. All forms and documents submitted by the applicants are a matter of public record, available in the Council meeting agenda

For the next term of Council which runs from 2018 to 2022, the Councillor for Ward 1 position will be filled through the 2018 municipal election. The next City of Mississauga municipal election is on Monday, October 22, 2018. Visit mississaugavotes.ca for more information.
