MISSISSAUGA, December 11, 2003 -- The SARS Recovery Office of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation confirmed this week that Mississauga Tourism will receive $100,000 from the Destination Marketing Fund. The funding will support three sales and marketing campaigns targeting corporate meetings, trade show and travel trade markets into the Mississauga area.
The proposal was submitted by Mississauga Tourism on behalf of 26 tourism operators from hotel, restaurant, attraction and retail industries. "This is a real testament to the tourism industry in Mississauga," said Suzan Trabert McKay, Manager of Mississauga Tourism. "Even while battling the substantial financial impacts of SARS, our tourism businesses got behind this proposal and assisted in whatever way they could."
With recent momentum building for a new Mississauga Convention and Visitors Bureau, this program demonstrates and confirms the commitment of the industry to support a Mississauga-focussed destination marketing effort. Mississauga Tourism's Steering Committee will be presenting its 2004-07 Business Plan to Mayor McCallion and members of Mississauga Council early in 2004.
