Mississauga Kicks Off the Holiday Season with Energy Efficient Lighting of the Square

MISSISSAUGA, November 27, 2003 ? Join Acting Mayor Pat Saito, Councillor Ward 9, members of Council, Easy Rock 97.3 Morning Show Host Mike Cooper and "Jack Frost" as they "flip the switch" and light the Civic Centre at the 17th annual Lighting of the Square, kicking off Mississauga?s Celebrate the Season.

This year the City's partner, the Mississauga Symphony has decorated 44 corporate-themed trees with energy efficient LED Holiday lights, which will be lit during the official ceremony.

The 17th annual Lighting of the Square will take place on:

Sponsorship of Mississauga Celebrates the Season has been provided by Enersource Mississauga; Enersource staff will be distributing 1000 energy efficient light sets in exchange for old incandescent lights. M.P.P. Donna Cansfield, Etobicoke West and Parliamentary Assistant to Minister of Energy Dwight Duncan will bring greetings on behalf of the Ontario government.

The Mississauga Children's Choir will perform seasonal songs during the ceremony and the Mississauga Festival and Youth Festival Choir will perform immediately following. Afterwards participants will enjoy holiday entertainment throughout the square. Free refreshments are provided courtesy of Red Lobster (Burnhamthorpe), McDonalds Restaurants and Hershey Canada.

In addition, Square One Shopping Centre will be hosting an outdoor light show at 7:45 p.m. and a Moonlight Madness Sale from 9 to 11 p.m.
