October is a special month for Mississauga Libraries. This month commemorates Canadian Library Workers’ Day (October 19) and Ontario Public Library Week (October 14 to 20). To celebrate, the Mississauga Library, in conjunction with the City is hosting a flag-raising ceremony to recognize the valuable contributions libraries and library workers make to communities like Mississauga.

BACKGROUND:

Canadian Library Workers’ Day (CLWD)
This national day recognizes the contributions made by all those who work in and for the public, academic, school, government, corporate and private libraries that are integral to communities.

Ontario Public Library Week
This provincially-recognized week showcases the important contributions Ontario public libraries make to education, literacy and lifelong learning.

The Mississauga Library
The Mississauga Library is one of the largest public library systems in Canada with more than 300,000 registered users. In 2015, the Library welcomed 4.75 million visitors and circulated approximately 6.4 million items. The Library collection consists of 1.3 million items across 18 branches conveniently located throughout Mississauga.
