Mississauga Employees Raise Incredible $221,605.40 for the United Way of Peel Region

Mar 21, 2018

The City of Mississauga presented the United Way of Peel Region with a cheque of $221,605.40 at Council today. The donation is part of the City’s annual employee campaign which has raised more than $3.5 million to date.

“The United Way supports many local agencies who provide important services in our community, and I am proud of the continued compassion our employees have for the city they work in,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “I know our employees will continue to give generously to support those who need it most.”

Over the course of 2017, employees donated and raised money through fundraising events including The Mayor’s Purse and Accessory Sale, chili cook-off, grilled cheese and soup day, an internal pledge drive, paid dress-down days and bake sales.

“As an organization, we have a strong history of supporting the United Way of Peel Region and helping those in our community,” said Janice Baker, Mississauga City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “I couldn’t be prouder of our team spirit and generosity for such a worthwhile cause. I encourage everyone to volunteer and give what they can.”

During the presentation, Julie Craig, Public Relations Co-ordinator and Callan Long, Administrative Assistant of Culture Operations were awarded the 2017 Ray Foster Award. The internal award recognizes City of Mississauga employees who went above and beyond in demonstrating commitment and dedication to the campaign.
