The City of Mississauga is offering the Driveway Windrow Snow Clearing program to older adults and individuals who are physically disabled. It is to 300 applicants on a first come first serve basis.
A windrow is the snow left at the bottom of a driveway after a snowplow has cleared a road. The program will provide windrow snow clearing service after every snow plowing operation. The windrow will be cleared approximately 3 m (10 ft) wide to allow one car to pass. As our winter maintenance operations focus on clearing major and residential roads first, it may take up to 36 hours after the end of a snow storm before windrows are cleared.
Residents who are 65 years and older and individuals who are physically disabled can apply for eligibility through an application process that will determine whether the service will be free or have a $200 fee attached.
Visit the City’s website at www.mississauga.ca/snow for more information or to receive an application. You can also pick up application packages at all City of Mississauga Community Centres and the Mississauga Senior’s Centre. You also have the option of calling 3-1-1 (or 905-615-4311 if calling from outside city limits) Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. or TTY: 905-896-5151.
