The City of Mississauga also offers programs for low income seniors and people with disabilities to support them in their desire to ‘Age in Place’. During the 2013 budget cycle, City Council requested that the Snow Removal Subsidy program be expanded to include grass cutting. In response to this, the City’s existing Snow Removal Subsidy program (not to be confused with the City’s Driveway Windrow Clearing program), was renamed the Yard Maintenance Subsidy program to include grass cutting. The maximum subsidy of $200 per eligible resident helps cover the cost of hiring a contractor to clear snow or cut grass only. The new subsidy helps residents most in need – seniors and people with disabilities who receive government income supplements – these include the Federal Guaranteed Income Supplement for seniors and the Ontario Disability Support Program; however, if there is another individual living in the household who is able to do yard work and snow clearing, the household is ineligible. Should you require information or believe you are eligible or would like a copy of the application form, please call 3-1-1 (905-615-4311 if calling from outside city limits).
