Description: A brown-backed brush with dark brown bristles. The backing is stained wood with grain lines clearly apparent. Some of the stain has worn off in the middle, as well as the edges. Engraved into one side in the number "40".

Clothes brushes were used to clean lint, dust and hair from clothing. Brushes with stiff bristles were used for clothing made of hardy fabrics like cotton or wool while brushes with softer bristles would be used for delicate fabrics like silk.
