Description: Black and white photograph of the front exterior of the Malton Recreation Centre with landscape visible in the front.

Prior to building an arena in Malton, the members of the Malton Minor Hockey Association played on out-door rinks or at the Dixie, Port Credit or Huron Park arenas. In November 1966, actions were taken to build a hockey arena in Malton. The Malton Memorial Recreation Association donated $60,000 towards the construction of the arena. The arena was completed in 1968 costing a total of $318,000. It was opened on October 19, 1968 by Acting Mayor Chic Murray. The building is located at 3430 Derry Road East and is still used today. Some famous hockey players coming out of the MMHA and who used this arena include Paul Coffey, Ron Ellis and Doug Armstrong.
