Description: A dark red leather book entitled “Hard Cash” by author Charles Reade and Illustrated by Arthur A. Dixon. The book over 686 pages with pages missing. There are also illustrations found on numerous pages. There is also a preface by Charles Reade written in 1868. The spine of the book has some inlay printing done in gold which reads "Hard Cash Charles Reade." "Collins" is also found near the bottom of the spine. There is also some decorations done in gold. The book is signed "Mrs. E. Bartey, 5 73 7 Holland St. Vancouver BC."

Charles Reade (June 8, 1814 - April 11, 1884) was an English novelist, dramatists and journalist. Hard Cash was a romantic fiction novel that appeared in Charles Dickens's magazine 'All the Year Round'.
