The front cover has "Band of Hope Review, 1875" written in black ink. Also written in the upper right hand corner is: "E.M. Gaines." The pages are hand-sewn to the spine. It is a compilation of different stories of hope and encouragement. Quotes and verses from the Bible for example: '1 Cor. VIII: 29 - The Time is Short'; 'Prov. XV: 1 A Soft Answer Turneth Away Wrath' etc. are found in most of the pages in the scrapbook. Beautiful pictures and illustrations in black and white made it more interesting to read the stories.

The Band of Hope Review was a temperance periodical for young people containing short stories, serial stories, competitions and concerted recitations. It was published monthly by S.W. Partridge & Co, London, England.
