The back board or pediment is slightly pointed and has one shelf supported by two turned posts at each end. There are several layers of paint on the piece. The current light red of salmon colour was painted c. 1966. The hardware and the drawer-pulls appear to be original. The cupboard is backed by vertical boards and battens.
