Description: A teal coloured book entitled "Select Poems of Coleridge, Wordsworth, Campbell and Longfellow" by author Frederick H. Sykes. Book covered in book cloth and imprinted in black with the tile and editor/author. In the middle of the front cover is a laurel wreath in gold, measuring 2 cm in diameter, with the year 1896 marked in the centre. Below, printed in black, is the publisher, "The W.J. Gage Co. Ltd. Toronto." The spine has the author's name and again the full title of the book which contains 360 pages. Marked inside the book on the flyleaf is the name "Walter Bennett Hawkins, Goderich Collegiate Institute" written three times in various forms and in different handwriting. Also at the top of this page are the initials and a number which appear to read "DB/R116(?)" and three initials "W.W.W."

The contents of the book include introductions of the four poets that are complied from classic texts and are listed at the beginning of the each of the biographies. The introductions cover 33 pages in total, six of which being photo-copies of handwritten poems by Campbell and give pages of poems by Longfellow.

Frederick Henry Sykes (1863-1917) was born in Queensville, Ontario and graduated from University of Toronto (?) in 1885. Skyes took on numerous teaching positions in various universities and colleges in the United States and was the president of the Connecticut College for Women.
