Margaret Anne Patton was the sister-in-law of Margaret Harris, the sister of Captain James Beveridge Harris of Benares. Margaret Anne’s brothers James Murray Patton (Margaret Harris’ husband) and Thomas Patton inherited 2/3rds of the Glenalmond Estate in Perthshire, Scotland in 1831. After the death of her brothers Margaret Anne Patton inherited the estate. Margaret Harris, her sister Matilda and Margaret Anne Patton lived together in Perth and frequently wrote to Benares and sent care packages. In her will Margaret Anne Patton left 2000 pound inheritances to the surviving Harris children and named Arthur Harris and the designate to inherit the Glenalmond estate should Arthur’s cousin Col. Thomas Marshall Harris die without heirs.
These transcripts were typed by Kathleen Sayers, wife of Geoffrey Sayers, whose interest in family history led her to transcribe original papers, letters, newspaper clippings, transcripts and research notes relating to Geoffrey's lineage. Geoffrey was the great grandson of James Beveridge Harris and Elizabeth Molony Harris and grandson to Arthur and Mary Harris.
