Spoons most likely used to scoop out food condiment from various dishes. Such condiments would include relish, mustard and perhaps even salt. Condiments were often served in specialty dishes or containers as it was more elegant to have a dish on a table then a crock or plastic container. Today most condiments are packaged and sold in containers that make it easy to place condiments directly on food or plate.
