Erin Mills or 'New Town' began development in the early 1970s by Don Mills Development Corporation Limited. Prior to that, Northwest Mississauga was sparsely settled with the small hamlet of Frogmore that centred around the present-day intersection of Dundas Street and Winston Churchill Boulevard. The name Erin Mills was chosen after Erindale and the mills that used the Credit River for power production. The development of the area was broken down into four phases with Erin Mills South being the first to be built. In the mid 1980s Erin Mills West was completed, and in the late 1980s Erin Mills Centre was completed. The fourth phase, Erin Mills Ridge, started in 1994.
