Reverend James Magrath (1769-1851) was the first rector of St. Peter's Anglican Church in Erindale. He emigrated from Ireland, to Canada in 1827 with his family. Reverend Magrath found his new parish in a "deplorable state" upon his arrival in the village then called Springfield-on-the-Credit. Later the village of Springfield would become Erindale named after the Magrath property. The Magrath Family and the Harris Family were close friends and this friendship was strengthened in 1881 when Reverend Magrath's granddaughter, Mary, married Arthur Harris of Benares Historic House.
