Young people across Canada join together to host the largest youth-led
celebration of creative expression and community involvement. This national grass roots
movement was initiated in 2012. Mississauga's Youth Arts Week features events every day,
including talent shows, dance performances and visual arts exhibitions, along with local youth
participation in the very popular annual Jane's Walk and Music Monday international events. All
events are designed for youth by youth and anyone can either participate or host their own
unique event.
REBEL!
From May 1 to 7, 2012 Mississauga Youth Arts Week will take place along a
route that cuts across the city, providing a diverse view of cultures, lifestyles and urban
densities. The route travels along Dundas, Burnhamthorpe, Mississauga and Lakeshore Roads and
up Winston Churchill Boulevard, passing many key nodes including the Hurontario and Dundas
intersection, Mississauga Celebration Square, Riverwood Park, University of Toronto Mississauga
campus and the Lakeshore. This route marks a heritage celebration, as it was used in 1837 by William
Lyon Mackenzie to escape the failed Rebellion that took place 175 years ago. Mackenzie's flight
from authorities took him through historic Mississauga following a rebel uprising. The
Rebellion of 1837 has become a famed part of Canada's history.
