On December 22, 2013, a massive ice storm hit Mississauga and Southern Ontario. Many residents lost power to their homes. According to Enersource when the storm had run its course it had affected 91,000 customers within Mississauga. A significant number of fallen trees and tree limbs were down throughout the city. City staff worked as quickly as possible to clear priority roads and routes to allow for emergency access.

Throughout the storm period, the City provided residents with consistent updates through the City website, media outreach, social media and 311.
