City Manager & CAO Janice Baker Elected to the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants

City of Mississauga's City Manager and CAO, Janice Baker, was elected to the 2010-2011 governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) as announced at its Annual General Meeting on June 17.

"Being elected by my peers to serve on the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario is an honour," said Ms. Baker. "I look forward to my role on the Council addressing issues confronting chartered accountants and helping the ICAO remain relevant to all its members."

"The City of Mississauga is known for its fiscal responsibility and prudence and Janice has helped to build this reputation," said Mayor Hazel McCallion. "Her dedication to her profession has benefited the City throughout her years of service."

Baker has more than 23 years of experience in municipal and fiscal administration. She became City Manager and CAO of the City of Mississauga in 2005 and works with a Leadership Team of four Commissioners to direct the efficient and effective operation of the City's administration. Baker joined the City of Mississauga in 1999 as Commissioner of Corporate Services and Treasurer. She has previously held positions as Director of Finance and City Treasurer for the City of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Commissioner of Corporate Services and, later, Public Works for the City of Oshawa.

She currently serves on several boards and committees including the Living Arts Centre (LAC), the Trillium Health Centre and the Healthy Cities Stewardship Centre. She has served on the Board of the Oshawa YWCA; the Board of Local Authority Services (LAS); a subsidiary of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO); the GFOA Executive Board; the GFOA Committee on Canadian Issues; the Board of the MFOA (Municipal Finance Officers Association), serving as chair in 2002. Other memberships include the International City Management Association (ICMA) and the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA).
