How to find real-time bus updates in Plan a Trip

 

 

 

How will I know the difference between real time information and scheduled Information?
Real time information will be displayed with this symbolreal time icon. Within 10 minutes of your bus time a countdown will appear.

Real time uses data gathered from GPS technology to provide up-to-the-minute information about your next bus.
Scheduled times are the planned trip times. When real time information is not available, schedule times are shown.

 

Can I view my bus in real-time on a map?
Yes. Input your stop number, route or location into the "Next Trip" section of Plan a Trip and select your trip. If you are using a smartphone, tap the "View selected trip in map" link. You can also tap on the bus icon on the map to reveal its estimated time of arrival. Like the real-time bus updates, the position of the bus on the map is updated every 60 seconds.

What happens if my bus is on detour or breaks down?
When real time data is not available the scheduled times will show until the bus is back on route.

 

Do trip plans have real time?
No. Trip Plans and Route Schedule only provide scheduled information.

On mobile, how do I find my route or stop schedules?
To find your route or stop schedules on mobile devices click on the menu button (three white lines) in the upper right hand corner.

Can you bookmark or favourite stops and routes?
Yes. You can use the bookmark and/or "add to favorites function" in your browser to save your selected stops and routes.

 

Can you search by intersection when planning a trip?
Yes, but for this to work you will need to name at least one of the street suffixes for that intersection. For example, enter Dundas St and Hurontario St and not Dundas and Hurontario, so that the tool can recognize the location.

 

Can I save the Plan a Trip tool as a shortcut on my mobile device to easily access it?
Yes. Choose the "Add to Home Screen" option in your browser menu to save it as a shortcut on your home screen.

 

Can you use businesses and landmarks when planning a trip?
Yes. The new tool is integrated with Google Maps and will recognize business names and landmarks.

 

I'm planning a trip for 3 months from now. Why can't I choose a date in advance?
At MiWay, we update our routes and schedules through service changes every 6 to 8 weeks as a continuous process of improvement, as outlined in our five year plan - MiWay 5 (2016-2020). Due to these service changes, MiWay bus information may not be available far in advance. Please remember to check your trip plan closer to the date, to ensure that the bus times and stops haven't changed.

 

Can I customize my trip options with the updated tool, to choose to walk less or avoid transfers?
Yes. When you create a trip plan there is an option on the upper right hand side where you can choose to customize your trip plan and minimize walking or transfers.

 

Does the tool work on all devices?
Yes. This new tool is fully responsive and will work on any device including any desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile phone.
