Description: 1495 Derry Road East. Conc 3 WHS, pt. Lot 11. This was a Stable Barn, with a painted stone foundation and vertical board siding. It had a gable roof with a catslide. The Gambrel Stable Barn is the most thinly distributed in Ontario. The stable is clearly the dominant element of the barn's design. It is rare for this type to have a large drive door. The stable wall is also characterized by a band of windows providing better fenestration than any other type. The Gambrel Stable barn is significantly different in form and construction and also in functional provision from the majority of Ontario barns. It is designed to provide stable facilities and lacks the general purpose nature of other types. This particular barn was atypical of Ontario's stable barns, but typical of the barns in Mississauga. Stable barns rarely have stone foundations: the general preference is for concrete. They also commonly feature horizontal siding. Finally, the roof has the peculiar feature of sloping down further on the east side than on the west. Description as of April 2011.
