Description: Crowds at the Cooksville Fair. The photograph was taken in 1912 behind Cooksville Town Hall. According to Verna Mae Weeks in "Cooksville: Village of the Past", Cooksville's Fall Fair may have begun as far back as 1850. Papers exist which record a meeting of the Cooksville Fair Board in February of 1851, referring to the Fair which had been held in October 1850. The Fair was organized by the Toronto Township Agricultural Society and held on the Fair Grounds by the Town Hall continuously until 1858, at which time it was moved to Streetsville on alternate years. Mildred Belleghem, in her column in the Mississauga Review of April 30, 1969, reports that the Cooksville Fall Fair had been more popular than the Toronto Exhibition, but that due to declining interest among the district residents the last Cooksville Fall Fair was held on September 14 and 15, 1951.
