Description: Robert Sloan presumably built the original portion of the subject structure in 1881. Subsequent owners include writer and antique dealer Sydney Preston and Howard West, head of J. & J. Taylor/Toronto Safe Works. Preston established the landmark antique barn that still exists on Lakeshore Road West in Clarkson. West originally used the house as a summer home. He and his family became very involved in the local community. Howard was the organist at Carman Church, the focal point of the Clarkson community. The main entrance of the subject structure originally faced Clarkson Road South. Sunningdale Bend was named for and oriented around this house.
