Description: Dr. John Crumbie 1794 - 1877

Dr. John Crumbie was born in the County of Wigton, Scotland, where he received part of his education and taught for a time in the parish school. In the year 1819 he immigrated to Canada with his father's family.

Dr. Crumbie was the first doctor in Streetsville and the first president of the Temperance Society. In addition to his professional duties and being a scholar himself, he always took an active interest in the educational interests of the County. He was also one of the magistrates in the County and for many years one of the county examiners. He used his influence to support the schools of the neighbourhood.

In 1831 he married Miss Waite. Although they had a number of children, all died in infancy. Dr. Crumbie, having no surviving children, adopted his niece, Mary.
