Description: John Embleton Senior - Died 1855

In 1826 John Embleton opened a third tavern, which he called the Streetsville Hotel. he was actually a millwright, from Corbridge in Northumberland, England and built Timothy Streets's first mill around 1822. His name appears as witness to a number of business transactions and he is described sometimes as millwright, or as innkeeper, during this period.

In 1840 he purchased the corner block of 213 Queen Street for 65 pounds from Timothy Street. That same year he built a brick building which became the Library of the Farmers and Mechanics Institure 1854 - 1877 and then Goodison's Popular House and general store 1878 - 1931, and the Post Office from 1931 to 1952.
