Description: This photograph is of a portrait of R. Y. Eaton, painted by the artist, E. Wyly Grier. Robert Young Eaton (1875-1956), the nephew of Timothy Eaton, was born in County Antrim, Ireland. He became Vice-President of the T. Eaton Company in 1907. When John Craig Eaton, Timothy's son, the President of the company, died in 1922, R. Y. Eaton took over the family business until John Craig's heirs were old enough to assume the responsibility. In 1942 John David Eaton, the second eldest son, became President. On the back of this photograph is written: "R. Y. Eaton, President of the T. Eaton Co. This picture was painted for the Winnipeg branch of the company by E. Wyly Grier, P.R.C.A." R. Y. Eaton owned an estate in Port Credit, at 766 Balboa Drive. The estate, which was known as "Glen Ireton", was about seventeen acres and included a main house, coach house, heated swimming pool, greenhouse, stables and lighted tennis courts. The estate was sold in 1935 and most of the buildings have been demolished. Only the Coach House is left and is designated under the terms of the Ontario Heritage Act. The original photograph is in the William Perkins Bull Collection at the Region of Peel Archives.
