Description: Ruth Hussey spent years tirelessly pursuing the preservation of Rattray Marsh and inspiring others to this cause. She died in July 1984. The memorial reads, "Ruth Hussey. Because of her, Rattray Marsh is ours." The Rattray Marsh is a protected natural conservation area, accessible from Meadow Wood Road (north of Orr Road) or through Jack Darling Memorial Park. In Wilmot's survey the marsh was originally called Cranberry Marsh. It was bought by Major James Rattray in 1945. After his death in 1959 various groups fought to save the marsh as a conservation area. The Rattray Marsh Conservation Area was officially opened on October 5, 1975.
