He also spent 15 years in public office in Mississauga. He was elected in 1957 as the councillor for Ward 3, Toronto Township, and after two years was elected deputy reeve in 1959. |
On January 1, 1968, when the Township of Toronto became the Town of Mississauga, Charles Murray became the first Reeve of the new Town. He took over as Mayor when Robert Speck died in April 1972, but was defeated 18 months later by Dr. Martin L. Dobkin who became the first mayor of the City of Mississauga. Chic Murray re-entered politics a year later when he won the Ward 3 by-election. He retired from politics in 1976. Charles 'Chic' Murray died in July 1984.
