Description: Tombstone of Roy Ivor, the ornithologist, who founded Winding Lane Bird Sanctuary in Erindale. Ivor was born in Strathroy, Ontario, in 1880. His family moved to Saskatchewan when he was a boy and it was there that he developed his love of birds. After the death of his father his family moved back to Ontario and settled in the Erindale area in 1925. Roy Ivor purchased the Winding Lane property originally for the purpose of studying bird behaviour but it soon became a sanctuary for injured animals and birds. Roy Ivor died in 1979 shortly before his 100th birthday.
