Description: The Women's Land Army was formed during World War I, to help to fill the gap left by so many men enlisting in the war. The women would work on farms, helping to grow food and harvest it. In World War II the Women's Land Army helped to provide food at a time when the German U-boats were destroying merchant ships bringing food to Britain. There were branches of the WLA in Canada. This photo shows WLA girls working at Leaver Brothers Ltd on Stanfield Road.
