Description: In June 1983 Premier Bill Davis announced a three-person committee to look into the feasibility of building a domed stadium at Exhibition Place. Various other sites were proposed, including Downsview Airport and York University. The City of Mississauga proposed that the stadium be built on 2,000 vacant acres in Mississauga, to cost $175 million. The project, known as the Trillium Dome, would have been located at the northwest corner of Highways 401 and 10. Plans and models for the Trillium Dome were constructed by DAF Indal Ltd. Mississauga's proposal was only one of 34 proposed sites for the domed stadium which was eventually built in Toronto beside the CN Tower in 1989. This is a photo of the model for the proposed stadium, showing the retractable roof.
