This "lost village" of the former Toronto Township was described in the 1877 Illustrated Historical Atlas of Peel County as "a small hamlet on the Centre Road, 4 miles from Cooksville and 6 from Brampton. It has a post office, wagon shop and blacksmith shop, a large brick school house and a fine brick church." Britannia School and Britannia United Church and Cemetery may still be seen at the junction of Britannia Road and Hurontario Street.
