Description: 1615 Petrie Way. Conc 3 SDS, pt. Lot 27, Proposed Lot 7. Built between 1911 and 1912 by Gordon McMurdo Petrie, a retired pharmacist. This was a two storey brick structure. The main entrance was on the west façade with a large enclosed porch on the south façade. On the west façade the roof rose on a steep pitch with two dormers, one larger dormer having a hipped roof, and the smaller dormer a shed like roof. Windows were generally multi-paned casement windows. The house had very few if any updates, which provided for an intact and original interior, which included a cast-iron fleur-de-lis pattern hearth insert in the small drawing room. There was a fireplace in the larger living room with a surround made of ornate white glazed terracotta. The house was asymmetrical in design, set within a large open landscaped terrace above Lakeshore Road. There were many fruit trees and a small barn and driveshed towards the rear and on the lot. The property was demolished in 1996 or 1997. Description as of October 2015. |
