Among the various businesses which flourished in the villages of Toronto Township were the blacksmiths' shops, dairies, post offices, general stores and hotels which could be found in Cooksville, Clarkson, Dixie, Streetsville and other villages. Farming and fruit growing were to be found in many areas of this mainly rural community, while stone hooking was unique to Port Credit.
