Description: During the summer of 1915 the soldiers who had been in training in the Niagara region were marching to Toronto to entrain for embarkation. Clarkson was a stopping place for rest and medical inspection; the place chosen was the north-west corner of Clarkson Road. For two weeks the women of Clarkson, under the leadership of the Women's Institute, provided a lunch of pie and coffee for the soldiers. The little school room was used for making the coffee and gathering in and cutting the pies, and relays of girls and women were organized to take care of the serving, so that no one was missed.
