Description: Sir William Pearce Howland, 1811-1907, the only American born Father of Confederation, was born in Paulings, NY, and settled in Cooksville in 1830. He represented York West in the Legislative Assembly 1857-1867, and in the House of Commons 1867-8. At the London Conference in 1866 he was one of three delegates from Canada West. He was Ontario’s second Lieutenant-Governor from 1868 to 1873.
