When Anna Jameson visited Erindale in 1837 she referred to it as "a very pretty village". The community was also known as Credit, Springfield and Springfield-on-the-Credit. Erindale was the name of the house built by the Reverend James Magrath, the first rector of St. Peter's Anglican Church, and that name was eventually given to the village in the early 1900s.
