Fencing, Driveways, Pools & Decks
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Do I need a building permit for a shed, deck, fence or pool or to finish my basement or for the installation of an air conditioner?
Answer
To determine whether a building permit is required for any construction projects you wish to undertake, contact the City’s Building Division.
In addition, you should contact the City’s Zoning Plans Examination Section to ensure compliance with the requirements of the City’s Zoning Bylaw.
A useful publication entitled “Building Permits: A Homeowner’s Guide” is available either on the City’s website or at the City’s Building Division Counter on the 3rd floor at the Mississauga Civic Centre.
Please note that the Development Agreement affecting your lot may also restrict the location of an air conditioner on your property.
Information and permit applications for erecting a swimming pool enclosure can be obtained from the City’s Bylaw Enforcement Office. If your subdivision is not yet assumed by the City, the City’s Bylaw Enforcement Office cannot issue a Swimming Pool Enclosure permit without the consent of the City’s Transportation and Works Department and the Developer of your subdivision.
