Property Damage - My property has been damaged as a result of City construction. What should I do?
Record the details of the incident and, if possible, include the name(s) of the contractor and employees, as soon as possible. Contact your personal property or automobile insurance company to expedite repairs to your property. On your behalf, your insurance company may pursue any party they believe to be responsible for the damages.
Contractors working on City property will have a permit, otherwise, they are working under contract for the City. In both cases, there is typically an indemnity and insurance clause that protects the City against claims arising for their operations. Should the City receive a claim resulting from a contractor's work, it will forward the claim to the contractor for handling. Please note that payment in respect of property damage or bodily injury is contingent upon the contractor being found legally liable.
