Description: The Credit River derives its name from the fur trade as early traders gave a credit of goods to the Mississauga Indians in exchange for promised loads of animal pelts. The Spirit of the River was reputed to live in a cave on a steep face of land just north of what is now the QEW bridge. On the west side of the river the Mississaugas had their log cabin village where they raised livestock and farmed. The land is now part of the Mississaugua Golf and Country Club.
