Description: The Credit River takes its name from the practice of extending credit to the Mississaugas who lived by the river. In trading with the French and English at Fort Rouillé (Toronto), they developed a good reputation for delivering furs and paying in full for goods received earlier in the year. Recognized for their good credit, they became known as the Mississaugas of the Credit and the river became the River Credit. Pictured in 1999, the river widens and becomes shallow just north of the Queen Elizabeth Way. Description as of September 2018.
