Is this initiative costing the City additional funds?

Answer

No, the City needs to replace many of these vehicles anyway as they are coming due in their replacement schedules. To achieve the emission reduction targets set out in the Clean Air Strategy, the City is beginning to replace older fleet vehicles with hybrids and fuel-efficient vehicles when this is appropriate to the job function. In several situations, the recommended replacement vehicles may cost less to replace (even if it is a hybrid) because, for certain job functions, smaller vehicles were recommended that would not compromise the job duties.
