COVID-19: latest updates on the City's response and service impacts
Housing Choices - Public Consultation

A Report on Comments that summarizes the input from the February 25th public meeting on the Second Unit Implementation Strategy was discussed at the Planning and Development Committee meeting on June 24, 2013. Mississauga City Council approved a plan to permit second units on July 3, 2013. It will be in force in January 2014.

The June 24, 2013 Planning and Development Committee meeting will also consider a report from Enforcement to allow for the licensing of second units. The licensing report is available here.

The public meeting provided the opportunity to review the proposals, ask questions and give feedback on the proposed Second Unit Implementation Strategy including amendments to the Official Plan and Zoning By-law

The Planning Act requires municipalities to have second unit policies. There is no appeal available from the decision of the City of Mississauga with respect to second unit policies or a zoning by-law that gives effect to such policies.

A copy of the report on the results of the research, consultation and implementation strategy is available here. This report includes thoughts and ideas received from the five workshops held in 2012 to discuss:

      preserving neighbourhood character
      ensuring safety
      maintaining City Services
