Description: A portrait of Robert Barber from the 1877 Historical Atlas of Peel County. Robert Barber immigrated to Canada in 1822 from County Antrim, Ireland. In 1837 he and his brother, William Barber, purchased a woollen mill in Georgetown. Business interests expanded and they purchased the William Comfort mill on the Credit River, south of Streetsville. Robert Barber oversaw its operation. Other factory buildings were added and as they prospered, the brothers built handsome homes for their families. Business declined in the early 1880s and the mill empire passed out of their hands in 1882.
