The City of Mississauga Risk Management section is responsible for the three main areas:
risk financing, risk control and claims administration. The business of managing risk cannot be
done in silos. Managing risk requires the assistance and cooperation of all City departments
and for this reason Risk Management works closely with all departments. Similar to most large
corporations, the City retains a large portion of its risk in exchange for lower insurance
premium. In addition to reducing the City's exposure to insurance price spikes, the premium
savings have assisted in building the City's insurance reserve fund as well as stress the
importance of ensuring an effective risk management program is in place.
