Description: 3540 Morningstar Drive. In July 1962, the Malton Branch of Toronto Township Library opened in leased quarters in the Patchett Building at 2885 Derry Road East. The branch then had an average circulation of 2,200 books a month, and was open for 12 hours a week. By March 1967 the Toronto Township Council had committed to building three new Branches as a Centennial project, one on Morningstar Drive in the Westwood subdivision of Malton, one in Serson Park in Lakeview and the third in the Whiteoaks area of Lorne Park.
On October 15, 1967, the Hon. William G. Davis, Minister of Education, cut the ribbon to officially open the Malton Centennial Library. However, the branch would eventually outgrow the building and on February 5, 6 and 7, 1977, the new combined Malton Community Centre and Library, Raymond Moriyama, architect, opened next door to the Malton Centennial branch at 3540 Morningstar Drive. |
